Colonial History Sites

Our first history unit as the new year begins is colonial history. This is the time after the pilgrims have arrived, but is before we fought for independence from England. It is an important time in our history, and if your child is interested, they can explore these sites (with your supervision) and learn more about this time than we can do in class. Click on the picture to go to the site.

The first is a site developed by a class specifically for kids to learn about colonial times. Thus, all of the articles are at an easier level to read, and there are a good amount of pictures and activities sprinkled throughout the site.

The second is a game where the child has to pick the right hat for the right person in colonial times. They will get to see colonial styles, as well as see how the different people in colonial America were dressed differently based on their job and needs.

The next is an interactive picture where as each picture is scrolled over, you can learn about that area of the town. Photobucket

The last colonial link that I have is the least exciting, but I do think it is interesting. It is a complete 1805 New England Primer, the book that colonial kids learned to read with. You can only see one or two pages at a time, but I believe it is worth a look.
